Music Notes
Emily Looney of West Windsor, a student at Cornell University, is active in the Cornell Wind Ensemble and vice president of the student organization CU Winds. She graduated from High School South, Class of 2003.
In January of next year she will participate in a performance and outreach tour of Costa Rica with the Cornell University Winds Ensemble. The group will perform several concerts in venues including the Teatro Nacional in San Jose, the U.S. Embassy, and several town squares. An integral aspect of the tour brings Cornell musicians to the rural community of Matapalo in Guanacaste.
CU WINDS will coach the young Costa Rican musicians as well as perform with and for them. The Cornell students plan to bring donations of musical instruments to leave behind in Matapalo.
The group seeks donations of woodwind and brass instruments in any condition; mallet percussion instruments; accessories including neck straps, mutes, metronomes, cases, tuners, valve oil, swabs, and unopened boxes of reeds; and cash donations for the purchase or repair of instruments.
