Area residents recently became certified as Master Gardeners at a graduation ceremony held at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Mercer County. The graduates reside in area communities, have diverse backgrounds, and bring with them many skills and talents that benefit the program. They now join a group of experienced volunteers who provide home horticultural and environmental information to residents. Graduates include Mary Quigley, Jessica Irons, and Sudi Solomon of West Windsor, and Tara Miller of Plainsboro.
They completed 60 hours of instruction and also completed at least 60 hours of volunteer service to Mercer County.
Special recognition awards were presented to those who volunteered more than 100 hours in fulfilling their requirement for graduation. The recipients of this award include Mary Quigley. Visit www.mgofmc.org for information about education programs and the hotline.

High School South’s Science Olympiad teams received first and fourth places in the recent Science Olympiad Regional Tournament. The advisor is Sunila Sharma. The students now will compete at the state level.

Community Middle School’s Science Olympiad teams placed first and third in the recent regional tournament. The CMS coaches are Kevin Mackenzie, Lisa Sacca, and Arthur Downs.

Nila Das of Plainsboro was named to the Forbes’ “30 under 30” list. A vice president of mortgage trading at Citi, she was formerly with Goldman Sachs and Royal Bank of Scotland. She graduated from Boston University in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and international management with a minor in economics.

State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi: Amy Ashton of Plainsboro is on the dean’s list. She is majoring in nursing.
James Madison University: Students on the dean’s list include Zachary McCann of West Windsor, a member of the Class of 2017 and majoring in communication studies; and Amy Slothower of Plainsboro, a member of the Class of 2016 and is majoring in theater and dance.
Lehigh University: Students on the dean’s list include West Windsor residents Sydney Bornstein, Sarah Grust, Simon Hwang, Armaan Khullar, Amanda Lane, Amy Laresch, and Dazuo Zhu.
University of Vermont: Bethany Harris of West Windsor is on the dean’s list. A member of the Class of 2018, she is majoring in psychological science.
Widener University: Students on the dean’s list include Nicole Crossey, a political science, international relations and history major from Plainsboro; and Brae McQuade, a middle years education major from West Windsor.
