Marie Alonzo Snyder, a former resident of West Windsor, has written her first book. “The Art and Sensuality of Brazilian Zouk Dancing” is now available. She lived in West Windsor for more than 16 years, from 1998 to 2014. The family, including her husband and two sons, moved to Kona, Hawaii, in November, 2014. “We wanted a change and love the culture and the weather,” she says. “It was also closer to my parents and my husband wanted to retire there.” She teaches Brazilian Zouk in Kona, Holualoa, Waimea, Captain Cook, and at UH Hilo.
The front cover of the book is a painting by Stephanie Bolton, a third generation visual artist, Alonzo Snyder’s first Zouk student, and the owner of Mauna Lea Manor Studio, where she teaches belly dancing and Alonzo Snyder teaches Zouk. Her painting is inspired by a photo taken by James DeSalvo at her dance concert in 2013 at the West Windsor Arts Center. The back cover is a photograph taken at the same concert by West Windsor resident Elliot Gordon.
Alonzo Snyder will donate books to the West Windsor, Plainsboro, Princeton, and New York public libraries. “When I visited in April to do research they had nothing on Zouk,” she says. Visit www.livezoukaloha.com for information and purchase.
