Mercer County Improvement Authority is set to implement changes to the curbside recycling collection beginning July 1.
Changes are set to take place in Hamilton Township, City of Trenton and West Windsor Township.
In Hamilton Township there will no longer be a Saturday collection, the new collection day is set for every other Wednesday, beginning July 9.
The City of Trenton will no longer have separate collection zones. The entire City will be collected on the same day, every other Wednesday, beginning July 2.
In West Windsor Township there will no longer be a Saturday collection, the new collection day will be every other Thursday, beginning July 3.
All participating towns in the county’s curbside recycling program will have their holiday makeup day switched to Saturday rather than Sunday. For example, if a resident’s collection day falls on a holiday, collection will be the following Saturday.
MCIA executive director Phillip Miller said the new scheduled will enhance service for participating towns.
“Eliminating regular weekend collection results in a cleaner residential community when most family and community activities take place,” Miller said in a statement. “In addition, it allows for a quicker response if a resident’s recyclables are mistakenly missed because the recyclables will be collected during the normal work week.”
Old collection days will be honored for the first couple of weeks. When residents place their buckets at the curb on the old collection day, MCIA plans to leave residents a flier advising them of the recent change.
The new scheduled can be found on the My Waste App, available for both iPhone and Android smart phones. App users can set reminders for their collection day.
