The Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored Sheriff Officers Anibal Santos and Ralph MacKelvey during their formal meeting June 26 .
The officers received Certificates of Honor from the board for their quick, life-saving actions taken while on duty May 28. Frontier Airlines called the officers to assist a passenger in distress at Trenton-Mercer Airport.
According the Sheriff’s Department, a 68-year-old male passenger had become unresponsive and was suffering from a suspected cardiac incident. The officers administered medical treatment, which included the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator and CPR until rescue services arrived and transported the man to Capital Health Regional Medical Center.
“Officers Santos and MacKelvey demonstrated exceptional skill and tremendous composure under stressful conditions,” Freeholder Chair Andrew Koontz said in a statement. “We are fortunate to have such dedicated, well trained, officers on duty at the airport and across our county.”
