Whitfield: It’s the right time to get involved

Many of you know my passionate dedication and continuous commitment personally and professionally to the enhancement of this community. As general manager of the Princeton-Windsor Cultural Complex (Windsor Athletic Club/Princeton Royale Club/Advantage Tennis Club/Wilberforce School), my goal has always been to bring the fine people of these townships together in different ways; thru student enrichment, excellence and academic achievement, thru family togetherness/awareness, thru tailored wellness and sports programming and overall cultural appreciation events. This in turn makes for a vibrant, productive and unified township and school district.

After serving this community for years, I have gained a tremendous understanding of the true fabric and pulse of the West Windsor-Plainsboro family. With that said, my goal is to continue to have a positive impact, and being on the WW-P School Board would be a valuable and important contribution to our school district and its’ residents.

As a graduate and former Division I men’s basketball player at the University of Texas, former employee of the NBA, I have witnessed some of the greatest athletes in the world. Through my very own development years, volunteering initiatives and professional business career, I have understood the true essence of setting and achieving goals, hard work, dedication, focusing on the task at hand, teamwork, camaraderie, and of all—good competition.

I have brought that attained knowledge from an athletic/business perspective and a community advocate perspective to the wonderful people I serve everyday. But more importantly, I have brought my love, affirmation and appreciation for my beautiful wife and five children (my family unit) to respect even more so, the overall vision and goals that so many have for their very own families.

With four kids in the district (High School South, Grover, Village and Dutch Neck), I have a full understanding of the path to educational, academic and social success. This is key, as we help parents/students and others navigate through the sometimes uncertain road of change, growth, personal achievement/development, communal/social relationships and academic excellence.

For me, it is very simple. Now is the absolute right time to get even more involved and help all of our students reach greater heights.

With two board seats up for election this November, I am running with Dana Krug. Dana is a dedicated community member and strong education advocate, who has served on the WW-P School Board for six and a half years, contributing to the continued excellence of our highly-regarded school district.

She has faced the challenges of maintaining fiscal responsibility for taxpayers without diminishing the outstanding education our children deserve. And as current chair of the board of education’s curriculum committee, Dana has worked with the administration to build and support educational programs for all district students.

Together, we will work to maintain an outstanding education for all of our children at an affordable price to taxpayers. Our shared goal is to bring our diverse community together.
