The following are NOT rhetorical questions.
Quick: Name all Department of Public Works yard debris zones. How many are there? In what zone am I? Good grief.
If you write your answer in Greek, it will equally be misunderstood.
Of course the language I speak from the public podium seems to be foreign to both Marlena Schmid, Shing-Fu Hsueh, and selected members of Council.
This makes us even.
Let me understand: Public Works cannot get the job done without overtime? Did the severe winter not affect other communities within New Jersey and the rest of the nation? This is the tail wagging the dog that overtime is a prerequisite to productivity.
As a taxpayer, this is utter nonsense. We all have the same 168 hours per week, except the private taxpayer sector has no benefit of a union.
(1.) Less time on coffee/work breaks during a grueling six-hour workday handling leaves, twigs, and yard debris;
(2.) Less transit time to/from the work sites by staging equipment on site within the respective neighborhoods;
(3.) Endlessly driving around in trucks (GPS) to confirm the yard debris hasn’t moved would jointly and severally go a long way toward abating the backlog.
(4.) Explore an in-town compost site off as part of Mercer County Park off South Post Road to drop collections saving time and fuel.
(The county would benefit from the compost for its tax-exempt golf courses, and West Windsor roadways would have less truck traffic.) A portable tub grinder could do all the work the current private contractor is doing.
Perhaps we could simply withhold everyone’s paychecks until the work gets caught up?
When will the message get through that it is all about leadership and management skills, neither of which can be found in abundance with current Business Administrator Schmid. If she doesn’t know why she was terminated from her previous position, she need look only in the mirror.
