Capital Singers of Trenton (CST) celebrates its 17th anniversary season with five concerts throughout the capital region and abroad under the direction of Artistic Director and Conductor Vinroy D. Brown Jr. The season’s repertoire includes both known and unfamiliar works to CST audiences, with an emphasis on the music of living composers and music from underrepresented communities.

CST’s signature winter event, “Winter Songs XVII: In December’’ takes place on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 4 p.m. All of CST’s ensembles — Capital Singers of Trenton, CST Chorale and CST Women’s Ensemble will perform works related to the major holidays in December: Christmas, Chanukah and Kwanzaa.

The featured work will be the Oratorio de Nöel of Camille Saint-Saëns. Additional works by Robles, Rutter and Barnett will be performed. Special guest artists include the all-female Marian String Quartet and harpist Elaine Christy.

On March 15, 2024, at the historic 1867 Sanctuary, the CST Chorale will present “Her Sacred Spirit Soars” at 8 p.m. It features the contemporary work, The Little Match Girl Passion by David Lang and additional music by Taverner and Whitacre.

CST’s ensembles will return to Sacred Heart Church for two performances in May, 2024. The full group will present “Shout for Joy!” on Sunday, May 5, at 4 p.m. In commemoration of the fifth anniversary of Artistic Director & Conductor Vinroy D. Brown, Jr., the ensemble will perform the known Händel coronation anthem, Let God Arise and works by Hailstork, Ešenvalds and Garrett.

CST Women’s Ensemble will present “The Elements” on Sunday, May 19, at 4 p.m. In the words of Associate Conductor Ellen J. Dondero, “CST Women’s Ensemble concert will prove to be a unique and interesting performance with something for everyone.

“Elements” focuses on nature’s elements with selections by various composers including Kate Crellin, Mary Goetze, Jacob Narverud, Frank Ticheli, and Joseph Martin. This allows the chorus to sing in a variety of styles and techniques, and offers the audience a varied listening experience.”

The season will close with the cherished “Spring Concert at the Shore” and will present the “Shout for Joy!” performance to audiences at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Beach Haven at 4 p.m.

In the words of General Manager David J. Abers, “As a founding member of the chorus, I am amazed with how the chorus is always changing to stay relevant and exciting. The season that Brown has crafted is evidence of his artistry and further proof of Capital Singers longevity.”
