The award-winning Signum Quartet will return to Princeton on Wednesday, April 30, to revisit its #quartweet Project with an interactive presentation at the Princeton Public Library.
The event, hosted in the library’s Community Room at 7 p.m., is part of the Princeton Symphony Orchestra’s PSO BRAVO! outreach series in partnership with the library.
The program will include a discussion about the origins of the social media-inspired #quartweet format and performances of selected #quartweets by both professional and student composers.
Audience members will also have the chance to collaborate on a new group #quartweet and hear it performed live.
First launched during a 2015 residency with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, the #quartweet Project invited composers of all ages to submit miniature string quartet pieces of no more than 140 notes—musical tweets known as #quartweets.
Notable contributors to the project have included Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw, Julian Grant, Derek Bermel, Steve Mackey, and Sarah Kirkland Snider, along with elementary school students from the local community.
Known for its expressive and intense performances, the Signum Quartet began its 2024-25 season with concerts across Europe and South Africa, highlighting both classical and contemporary works.
The ensemble, which debuted at Carnegie Hall in 2021 and the Library of Congress in 2023, will return to the U.S. this spring with performances at the Salt Lake City Chamber Music Society and Princeton Symphony Orchestra’s Chamber Series at Trinity Church on May 1.
Attendees of the April 30 talk will be eligible to enter a drawing for free tickets to the May 1 concert. Details and tickets are available at princetonsymphony.org.
