Notes From a Child Of ‘Tiger’ Parents

In response to Euna Kwon Brossman’s “Suburban Mom” column in the January 21 issue of the News:

Growing up in a “Tiger Parents” household has made me stronger in my opinion, but in my opinion there are much more effective ways for raising a successful child. I might not be qualified to talk about parenting with my less than 20 years life experience but it’s important that growing children (like me) should be given the freedom to decide how they are going to live. In preparing a child for the real world there is absolutely no substitute for learning from experience and making your own decisions.

On another note, if I weren’t allowed to gather socially with friends then I would not be even remotely close to the maturing teen that I am today. Social events are necessary to learning about what independant life is really about, and there will not always be a “tiger mom” there to decide what you will do.
