Annual city yard sale provides chance to find hidden jems

On Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2, driving through Bordentown City will be more like traveling via DeLorean back into the past. During these two days, the city will allow its residents to turn their front lawns into mini-flea markets as it holds the annual Historical City Wide Yard Sale; residents are encouraged to cleanse their clutter from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The likes of vintage items to new age castaways will be coming out of the confines of the attic, available to those who choose to wander the streets of the city looking for what Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe of the show American Pickers call “rusty gold.” Running parallel along with the yard sales, restaurants and merchants along Farnsworth Avenue are also expected to take part in the event, giving out discounts during the day. One such shop will be Rebecca’s Vintage Boutique & Consignment—owned by Rebecca Moslowski—which will be offering a 20 percent discount for the items in its establishment. “We all do some type of a sale,” said Moslowski of the establishments taking part in the event. “It’s not necessarily a clearance sale because it’s so early in the season, but we all do some kind of promotion.” Moslowski, who has been participating in the city’s event for more than a decade, said the two-day sale brings forward the best qualities of the city as it opens an opportunity for others to flock to town in search for hidden gems. “It creates a sense of camaraderie and it brings the community coming together, while also drawing people from the outskirts and all over the area,” Moslowski said. These immigrants venture from the likes of Trenton, Hamilton and Robbinsville, according to Moslowski. And all for the chance to ruffle through that rusty, dusty gold. “It’s a great day for the city with everyone putting their items on their front lawns and sidewalks,” Moslowski said. “And the larger the pickings, the larger the attraction.” The city-wide yard sale is set to be held June 1–2, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. —Brandon Gould
