While the season for the West Windsor Little League 12s has ended, their successful run in the pool play was capped off in the District 12 tournament, most namely knocking off last year’s District 12 champion Bordentown on July 12 and defeating Nottingham — which ultimately proved to be West Windsor’s demise — once in the tournament.##M:[more]##
Heading into the tournament, West Windsor fell to Nottingham on July 10, 14-4, but bounced back in the consolation bracket final against Bordentown, 16-13. Five home runs were contributed by Alex DeSanctis, Austin Lindner, Sean O’Brien, and Sid Kumar. And once again, the team overcame a six-run deficit.
Kumar had three hits, including his first-inning home run, and DeSanctis went 3-for-4, including a two-run home run in the fourth.
The team, however, would have had to defeat Nottingham, the best team in the league, twice on consecutive nights to claim the District 12 tournament title. The team made it halfway to that goal, as they pushed by Nottingham in the first of those two games on July 14, with a 9-8 win.
After falling behind 4-0, O’Brien hit a three-run home run, while Kumar had another two-run home run to propel West Windsor.
West Windsor enjoyed a 9-5 lead before Nottingham came back to make it 9-8 by the sixth inning. Josiah Foster, who struck out three batters for West Windsor, also had three hits.
The following day, however, the team lost to Nottingham, 15-5. DeSanctis, Adam Gostomski and Foster all had home runs in the game.
Throughout its run, West Windsor defeated Cranbury-Plainsboro, Princeton, HTRBA, Allentown, and Robbinsville before losing in the winners’ bracket final to Nottingham. It defeated Bordentown before heading into its two-game stretch with Nottingham.
