In what is normally a dead time in town government, the politicking season has already begun in West Windsor, even though the November elections are still more than three months away.##M:[more]##
Diane Ciccone, who currently serves on the Township Council — has officially been verified by the township as having enough petitions. Her opponent, Andrew Hersh has also picked up the candidacy package (although the clerk’s office says his petitions have not yet been certified) and has already begun campaigning.
In fact, Hersh kicked off his campaign on August 23 by holding what he deemed a community discussion on decreasing property taxes in West Windsor at the home of residents David and Neomi Wanetick. In an invitation to council members and the mayor, Hersh thanked the council “for acting on my recommendation to institute monthly budget meetings.
But Councilwoman Linda Geevers, who works on Ciccone’s campaign, disputes Hersh’s claim, saying that “for the record, the council has not acted on your recommendation to institute monthly budget meetings. The preliminary budget meeting is something that I an other council members have suggested to administrators in the past.”
The council has scheduled a special preliminary budget meeting for Monday, September 21.
Both Ciccone and Hersh are vying in the November special elections for the chance to serve the remainder of Will Anklowitz’s term on the Township Council. However, other residents still have a chance to file. The deadline is Thursday, September 10, at 4 p.m.
