Aline Holmes of Plainsboro was selected by Girls Scouts of Delaware-Raritan to represent the world of well-being and mentor Radhika Frazier, a senior Girl Scout from Princeton Service Unit’s Troop 1817. Holmes is the senior vice president for clinical affairs at the New Jersey Hospital Association in West Windsor. She is responsible for assuring that clinical and professional matters impacting NJHA’s members are addressed proactively and for providing leadership in advancing specific initiatives and on-going efforts in practically all areas pertaining to clinical affairs.
Prior to this position she was the director of the NJHA Quality Institute, where she worked with hospitals, post-acute care facilities, and home health agencies on a variety of initiatives to improve quality of care and patient safety for New Jersey residents. Some of these include the very successful Collaborative to Improve Quality and Patient Safety in the Intensive Care Unit, the Collaborative to Reduce the Incidence of Pressure Ulcers in the Elderly, and an initiative to establish a statewide learning network on Rapid Response Teams in hospitals and evaluate their impact of nursing satisfaction and turnover.
After completing her undergraduate work at the University of Massachusetts in nursing, Holmes served in the U. S. Navy Nurse Corps. She received her master’s in nursing degree from the Catholic University of American in Washington, DC, and worked as a nursing administrator in hospitals in Washington, DC and Chicago before moving to New Jersey. She has held positions here as vice president, patient care services, and chief operating officer/chief nursing officer of a multi-hospital system. She also has worked in long term care and in the managed care industry, and has held multiple faculty appointments in New Jersey, Chicago, and Washington, DC.
Holmes speaks locally and nationally on patient safety and nursing and is a member of many professional associations. She serves on several boards and is active with Children Can Shape the World foundation devoted to children in the Camden and Philadelphia area. The foundation was created by Holmes and her sister, Kathleen McDonnell. “She had worked at Campbell Soup Company and was very devoted to the children of the area,” says Holmes. McDonnell was honored as a Woman of Achievement by the Girl Scouts of Camden County a few years ago.
Holmes has two adult children. Susannah is finishing up her master’s degree in tax law at Temple University. Jonathan, who is married, is the executive director of Childre Can Shape the World.
Holmes was a Girl Scout from Brownies through ninth grade. Her mother was a Girl Scout leader and Susannah was a Girl Scout. Holmes, never a Girl Scout leader, was a Boy Scout leader.
Her husband, Rob Homes, is chief executive office for a leather and luggage trade association.
