One international brand has replaced another at 46 Nassau Street, where Club Monaco recently replaced the “fabulously British” — and short-lived — clothing store Jack Wills.
Having opened on June 13, Club Monaco is perfectly situated next to Ralph Lauren, its parent company, making that end of Nassau the go-to place for fine apparel. Known for its emphasis on luxe fabrics and fine tailoring, the company, originally out of Toronto but now headquartered in New York, has stores peppering the globe. The shop features styles by top designers that reflect an elegantly casual look. The Nassau Street location caters solely to women’s wear.
The summer line is bright white and baby blue, with touches of red, soft beige, pink and navy. Emphasis is on modern takes on classic lines. Their Onia linen pants ($175) are light as a feather and interestingly are made by one of the world’s foremost makers of swimwear. Cashmere sweaters, soft as butter, are the perfect evening wrap at home or the beach. Most items in the collection settle into the $150 to $350 range.
A special treat is a line of handmade dresses created from vintage fabrics, priced from $325 to $429 depending on length. All are made in the south of France and each is unique, so if you like it, don’t hesitate. One of our correspondents reported that a few were in evidence at the Cannes Film Festival in May, but none exactly like anything on Nassau Street.

Valet parking
A new service is opening doors — literally — for those pressed for time but not strapped for cash in downtown Princeton.
Open Door Valet, which already serves patrons of the Peacock Inn on Bayard Lane, Eno Terra in Kingston, and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Princeton Forrestal Village, recently launched Princeton Public Valet, a parking service based on Witherspoon Street by Hinds Plaza, outside the library.
Drivers can now pull up to the stand and for $15 (subject to change depending on demand) their car will be parked in a private lot on Nassau Street across from Hoagie Haven. A “Text-2-Retrieve” option allows customers to text their ticket number and location and have their car delivered back to them — wherever they ended up after they have spent their evening in downtown Princeton.
The service is currently available Thursday through Saturday evenings and Sundays during the day. It will peak, presumably, when the nearby public parking garages on Spring and Hulfish streets (where you can park yourself for half that price) are filled to capacity.
