Area young artists participating in KidzArt are featured in an exhibit by the fine arts education program that meets at the Tutoring Club in Southfield Shopping Center. The exhibit, which celebrates Youth Art Month, is open to the public on Saturday, March 31, from 1 to 2 p.m.##M:[more]##

The Tutoring Club in West Windsor is owned by Marc L. Perlman, a West Windsor resident. Raised in Irvington in a large family, he graduated from University of Minnesota. He has worked in accounting and finance for years, most of the time running the internal operations for other people’s companies. “I always had the desire to work with people and I wanted to do something I was passionate about — education,” he says. “This encompasses everything I was looking for and I dove into it full-time.”

His wife, Trudi, attended Juilliard School of Music, graduated from Temple University with a bachelor’s degree in musicology and piano, and has a master’s degree in education from Rutgers University. “My experience as a piano teacher for many years gave me the experience of working with children on an individual basis,” she says. “I spend much of my day in my current job (with a large financial institution in Plainsboro) working as a trainer.”

When the Perlmans lived in Edison, they began looking for homes. After she found a newspaper ad for a new development in Hamilton, they found their way to central New Jersey, an unknown territory to them — and lived in Hamilton for 14 years.

“We always had our eyes set on the West Windsor area,” says Marc. They, and their two daughters moved to a new development near McCaffrey’s in 1993.

Robyn, 27, a graduate of West Windsor-Plainsboro High School, received a degree in graphic design from American University. She lives in Chatham and is a graphic arts manager for IKEA. Amy, 22, attended High School North and graduated from Princeton Day School. She received a degree in public relations from American University. She works for Hillel International in Washington, D.C. as a communications associate.

Trudi is a co-director, acting as the consultant and advisor on educational-related issues and questions. Marc runs the center including meeting with the parents and students, administering the tests, hiring and working with the tutors, corresponding with the teachers when requested to do so and ensuring that the students are getting the most they can out of the program. “The fact that he is very much a people person has extensive business and financial background, along with my educational background makes us a really good team,” she says.
