Two area residents present their Chinese brush paintings at an opening reception on Saturday, November 8, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the art studio of I-Hsiung Ju, 35 Sycamore Place, Kingston. The show continues on weekends through November 23, 2 to 5 p.m. The subject matters of their paintings include flowers, birds, and landscapes.##M:[more]##
Wen-hua Shui, a Plainsboro resident, presents her painting, “Afternoon Tea with Friend.” Shui sees her herself as a Chinese-American, born and raised in a traditional Chinese family. She became fascinated with the arts early in her life and has studied under artists ZhaoNan Huang and Maoling Zhang. Shui studied a diverse range of motifs within Chinese brush paintings, such as flowers, insects, birds, animals, and figures.
She has also studied Chinese calligraphy and seal carving with several Chinese calligraphers. A nature lover, she enjoys photography and focuses on her desire to capture beautiful scenery.
She teaches Chinese painting class at Princeton Chinese Language School and Princeton-West Windsor Chinese summer camp. Since visiting Ju’s art gallery, she has been exploring Chinese brush painting with him.
Howard (Hong zhan) Ye, a West Windsor resident since 1993, was born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China. He came to the U.S. to pursue an advanced degree in electrical engineering and has worked in the fields of space, satellite, and DTV.
Painting, a passion of Ye’s since he was young, has been revived with his studies with Ju since 2007. Ye has taught Chinese painting and calligraphy in Princeton and Huaxia Chinese schools.
