Princeton resident Katie Heins was named Garden Club of America’s 40th president.
Princeton resident Katie Heins was named president of the Garden Club of America at the organization’s Centennial Annual Meeting in Philadelphia on July 1.
Heins will serve as GCA’s 40th president; she has held positions within the organization since 1992, including national horticulture committee chairperson.
The horticulturalist has created gardens at her former home that are documented in the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Gardens, a partnership organization of GCA.
As president, Heins will assist in supporting GCA’s 200 member clubs throughout the country.
Heins has been a member of the Stony Brook Garden Club in Princeton since 1983, a member of GCA. She has also served on the boards of Friends of the Princeton Public Library, Friends of the Princeton University Art Museum and until recently, the Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Association.
GCA’s mission is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, to share the advantages of association by means of educational meetings, conferences, correspondence and publications, and to restore, improve, and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.
