Plainsboro celebrates the annual anniversary of the town with a traditional parade through town to the festival grounds at the municipal center on Sunday, May 6 to 5 p.m.##M:[more]##
Participants include marching bands from High Schools North and South, Central Jersey Antique Auto Club, Chinese Drummers, Elementary and Upper Elementary School PTAs, Giant Library Puppets including the new Chinese Lion, Plainsboro’s own Town Crier, Korean Dancers, the MacGregor Pipe Band, and the WW-P Lion Dance Team. Residents and members of community groups will walk in a parade celebrating cultural diversity.
The parade, scheduled to depart from Waters Edge Park on Pond View Drive at 12:30 p.m., will travel Edgemere Avenue to Plainsboro Road, then follow Plainsboro Road to the municipal center. Children who would like to march or ride bikes with the parade may do so by joining the Kids Kaboose at Wicoff School. Following opening ceremonies at approximately 1 p.m., residents will be able to participate in a wide range of activities and enjoy live entertainment. Featured performers include Give & Take Jugglers, Mad Science, Jazz Ensembles from High Schools North and South, Jazzercise, high school bands, Chinese Lion Dance, folk and children’s performances by the Plainsboro Chinese School, as well as children’s dance groups, martial arts demonstrations, and cultural performances.
The Plainsboro Historical Society will open Wicoff House with displays highlighting local history. A static display of helicopters and military equipment is also scheduled. Games and food concessions sponsored by area non-profit groups will also be featured. Amusements for children include a superslide, radical run, miniature golf, and moon bounce, and older attendees can enjoy “giant chess”. Parking will be available at Enterprise Drive across the street from the municipal center. There will be no public parking at the municipal building. Police will be directing traffic and residents are advised that road closings and detours will be in effect in the vicinity of the municipal center throughout the day until 5:15 p.m. Traffic detours and temporary delays should be expected.
The celebration will be postponed only if it is raining in the morning and forecasted to continue all day. Program changes will be announced on radio stations as well as the recreation information line 609-799-0909, ext. 550. The rain date is Saturday, May 12.
