For Kids
New Jersey Opera is looking for children to take part in their July, 2007 summer season productions as supernumeraries performing non-singing roles in the production. Boys and girls ages 10 to 15 will play roles including “The Queen of the Night’s Ladies in Waiting,” “Sarastro’s High Order Knights in Training,” as well as several animal characters from lizards to lions. Operas include Mozart’s “Magic Flute,” Gounod’s “Romeo et Juliette,” and Gilbert & Sullivan’s “Pirates of Penzance.” Auditions are Sunday, April 29, 10 a.m. to noon, at Princeton Ballet School, 301 North Harrison Street, Princeton. The rehearsal period runs from June 16 to July 13 and a tentative rehearsal schedule will be distributed at auditions. American Boychoir School seeks donations to help defray the cost of flood damages incurred in February when a water pipe burst in a dorm. The boys are being temporarily housed off campus.
One family gave the school a challenge gift to match one dollar for every two dollars donated. A portion of this challenge gift is being set aside to cover special activities for the boys while they are housed off-campus, as well as upgrades where possible. Seeking Idol
Freehold Center Partnership launched a state-wide talent search for the “Freehold Idol.” Auditions will be held on 10 consecutive Wednesdays, beginning June 13, with the exception of July 4. Auditions will be held at 10 East Main Street, Freehold, from 7 to 9 p.m. Contestants must be pre-registered and be a 2007 high school graduate or between the ages of 18 and 27. Open to the first 200 applicants. $5 registration fee. Prizes include studio time, cash, vacations, and a featured performance in the last three performances of the summer program.
