Camping Supplies Needed

Mona Agarwal seeks donations of tents, sleeping bags, flashlights, lanterns, compasses, and other camping supplies for her Girl Scout Gold service project. A rising senior at High School South, she is a member of WWP Troop 70676.

Agarwal has had camping experiences with scouts and with her father since she was eight years old and wants to share the experience with children associated with HomeFront. “I felt that I wanted to share my experience of camping with other kids that can not have the same experiences,” she says. “My project involves running two camps for kids.”

The first camp is a four-day program for ages 5 to 8 beginning Monday, August 12. Agarwal will meet with them an a hour a day to read camping picture books, sing songs with them, and do arts and crafts. The second camp is an two-day camping trip with ages 11 to 13 with one overnight beginning Friday, August 23. The kids will pitch tents, make fake campfires, have scavenger hunts and races, make lanyards, and participate in other outdoor activities.

A garage sale will be held on Saturday, August 3, 8 to 11 a.m. at 26 Priory Road, West Windsor. Donations will be accepted there. E-mail Agarwal at monaa96@gmail.­com.

ESL in Plainsboro

Plainsboro Library offers English as a Second Language classes to focus on daily life and culture in the United States. Registration begin on Tuesday, August 6. The classes, made possible by an $8,600 grant from the American Library Association, begin Monday, September 9, and will run through December 9.

The sessions are for low-beginner to high-intermediate students. Print materials for each level will be provided. At least one class will focus on health and will feature local medical practitioners discussing the American healthcare system. Representatives of both the police department and the township committee will share information about law enforcement and government.

Faith

Windsor Chapel offers children in kindergarten through fifth grade vacation Bible school on Thursday and Friday, August 15 and 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Free. Location is 40l Village Road East, West Windsor.

Families are invited to community day on Saturday, August 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be pony rides, a petting zoo, moon walk, games, face painting, balloon animals, and music. All activities are free. Food, drinks and, ice cream will be available. The raindate is Saturday, August 24.

Call for Art

West Windsor Arts Council seeks entries for “Under Pressure,” an exploration of printmaking. Accepted artists will be shown in the gallery from Monday, September 9, to Friday, November 15, with an artist reception on Sunday, September 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. Accepted medium is monotype, monoprint, lithography, silk screen, woodcut/block, linocut, etching, engraving, drypoint, collagraph, and all disciplines of traditional and digital printmaking. Register Your Bike

Bicycle registration is now available with West Windsor Bicycle Pedestrian Association and the West Windsor Police. For people who bike in West Windsor and are interested in preventing their bicycle from being stolen and want to increase the chance of recovering your bike if it is stolen. Flash Mob Dance

International Zouk Flash Mob is happening on Saturday, September 21. Classes and prep meetings will take place on Sundays from 5 to 7 p.m. through September 15, at the Drum & Dance Learning Center at 4054 Quakerbridge Road in Lawrenceville. Call for Singers

Paper Mill Playhouse has open auditions for the Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir. The choir is a tuition-free performance show choir of close to 40 singers and dancers between the ages of 16 and 22 that perform throughout New Jersey. Prepare a pop/rock song or upbeat musical theater piece of approximately 32 bars that best demonstrates your vocal range. Bring sheet music in your key. Be prepared to dance. Students will be taught a dance combination which will then be performed in small groups. Volunteer Please

Womanspace seeks family law attorneys to volunteer to assist survivors of domestic and sexual violence in a monthly legal clinic in Lawrenceville. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Training will be provided. The goal is to provide an opportunity for a one time consultation that can help clients clarify their unique situation and to explore their legal options. Consultations are private and 35 minutes in duration. They are scheduled by appointment only by Womanspace staff. Womanspace also seeks volunteers to join its Domestic Violence Victim Response Team and Sexual Assault Support Services Advocate Team. Team members work in conjunction with local police and hospital staff to provide victims support, information, and referrals during the most critical time. Team members’ qualifications include the ability to communicate well with others, being a good listener, and maintaining confidentiality. Interested persons must be 18 years of age or older, as well as a resident of or employee in the Mercer County area with a valid driver’s license, available transportation, and the ability to attend trainings and meetings. Volunteers will not have either a criminal history or prior history as a defendant in a domestic violence or sexual assault-related matter.

Bilingual individuals (especially those fluent in Spanish, Polish, and American Sign Language) are encouraged to apply. Volunteers are also required to be fluent in English.

Lego Event

Barnes & Noble at 869 Route 1 South in North Brunswick will host its inaugural LEGO Architecture event in celebration of LEGO’s new launch, LEGO Architecture Studio, on Monday, July 29 at 7 p.m. The event includes a discussion of the design process in architecture using LEGO bricks to educate and inspire. Clean-Up Time

New Jersey Clean Communities Council is coordinating the New Jersey leg of the 2013 International Coastal Clean Up on Saturday, September 21.
