Hannah and Adam Lohr-Pearson are among the winners of the annual composition contest at the New School for Music Study in Kingston. They began studying at the school when they were six. Their primary teacher is Margie Nelson.
In keeping with the theme of the faculty recital, a performance of Saint-Saens “Carnival of the Animals,” the compositions contestants wrote pieces evocative of particular animals. Hannah’s composition was “The Rhino;” Adam’s was “The Eagle.”
Both also study cello at Westminster Conservator of Music.
Hannah, 11, is in sixth grade at Community Middle School. She plays cello in her school orchestra, keyboard in her school band, and practices ballet and theater dance at the Dance Corner in Plainsboro.
Adam, 7, is in second grade at Wicoff School. He plays recreational soccer and baseball and is a member of the Boy Scouts, Pack 759. Their parents are Jane Lohr and Tom Pearson. The family moved from Iowa in 1997.##M:[more]##
Yijing (Jing) Zhang, a senior at High School South, is being honored with the New Jersey Governor’s Award in Arts Education for music. A music lover from a very early age, Zhang began her piano studies when she arrived in the United States at age nine. In addition to the piano, Zhang is a soprano in her school’s a cappella group and tutors students at the local Chinese school. Zhang plans to attend Harvard University in the fall.
