Lewis Center for the Arts announces December events

Princeton University’s Lewis Center for the Arts is set to hold several December events including a talk by an acclaimed choreographer, a percussion concert, a lecture on Irish history, a talk on photography and various student performances.

On Monday, December 1, from 7 to 9 p.m., acclaimed dancer, choreographer and director Bill T. Jones will be in conversation with Princeton dance professor Judith Hamera. Jones will discuss his new book Story/Time: The Life of an Idea, which was inspired by a lecture he gave at Princeton University. The event will be at Princeton Public Library, located at 65 Witherspoon Street. The event is co-sponsored by Princeton Public Library, Princeton University Press, Labyrinth Books and the Lewis Center for the Arts.

On Wednesday, December 3, at 8 p.m., modern percussion ensemble Sō Percussion will perform Amid the Noise, re-orchestration of an evening-length multimedia work written by Sō Percussion member Jason Treuting. Treuting and his fellow ensemble members will be joined by five Princeton undergraduates and various special guests, including the Princeton Laptop Orchestra, the Princeton Percussion Ensemble. The event will be at the Marie and Edward Matthews ‘53 Acting Studio at 185 Nassau Street in Princeton.

On Friday, December 5, at 4:30 p.m., Irish historian and broadcaster Tristam Hunt will give a lecture entitled “The Socialism of the Ragged Trousered Philanthropists: Robert Noonan and the Modern Labor Party” at the James M. Stewart ‘32 Theater at 185 Nassau Street.

On Wednesday, December 10, at 4:30 p.m., a slection of students enrolled in Princeton’s fall Creative Writing Workshops will read their recent work in fiction, poetry, literary translation and screenwriting at the Chancellor Green Rotunda on the Princeton University Campus.

On Thursday, December 11, students enroleld in the Princeton Atelier “Pay Attention: The Art of Here and Now” led by theater director Marianne Weems will present a new work created during the semester at the Matthews Acting Studio.

On Wednesday, December 10, Thursday, December 11 and Friday, December 12, dance works created and learned throughout the fall semester will be shared in a series of short programs. On December 10 at 8 p.m. there will be a preview of the works to be performed at teh Program in Dance’s annual Spring Dance Festival including works by Marjani Forte, Jodi Gates, Zvi Goetheiner, Susan Marshall, David Neumann and Stephen Petronio.

On Monday, December 8, from noon to 1 p.m., author, cultural historian and Harvard Univeresity professor Robin Bernstein discusses Alison Bechdel’s graphic memoir Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic in room 207 at 185 Nassau Street.
