The Lawrence Township Police Department, Lawrence Township Public Schools and Hyundai Motor America will host a free anti-theft software upgrade event for eligible Hyundai vehicles at Lawrence High School from Aug. 23 to 25.
This event aims to enhance the security of eligible Hyundai vehicles against a theft trend that gained traction on social media.
The event, running from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, is designed for Hyundai vehicles manufactured between 2011 and 2021 that utilize a mechanical ‘turn-to-start’ key ignition. No appointment, registration or cost is required for participation.
Specially trained mobile service technicians will be on-site to install the software, which takes less than 30 minutes to complete. While waiting, attendees can relax in an air-conditioned lounge with complimentary snacks and beverages.
Additionally, Hyundai owners will receive a free steering wheel lock and, on Saturday, a certificate for a complimentary car wash provided by the Lawrence High School Cheer Squad from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
According to a report published (8/7/24) from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, “The companies’ solution is extremely effective. If you own a Hyundai or Kia vehicle without an electronic immobilizer, you should call your local dealer about getting the software upgrade today.”
