Groovy Fete

The 52nd day-long community fair with live auction, a 10K race, games for children, flea market, art exhibit and sale, garden tent, foods, music, and entertainment. The Lovin’ Spoonful present songs from the 1960s at 1 p.m. Admission free; parking donation. Proceeds benefit the University Medical Center at Princeton’s Breast Health Center. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Co-chairs are West Windsor residents Christine Calandra, 28, and Brooke Rossi, 26. Probably the youngest co-chairs in the 52-year history of the fete, they were born after 1970.

New to the fete this year are a rock-climbing wall and a home-improvement venue. The Lovin’ Spoonful’s hit songs include “Do You Believe in Magic?” “You Didn’t Have to be So Nice,” and “Summer in the City.”

“We are dedicating this Fete to the young.. and the young at hearts,” says Christine Calandra. “The Groovy theme has already put a lot of smiles on the faces of people thinking back to their experiences in the 60s and 70s.”

More than three dozen regional and national bands, entertainers, and children’s groups are scheduled to perform during the two days. Choices of food include fried turkey, seafood, Indian, Chinese, and Mexican cuisines. The Strawberry Patch features strawberry shortcake and strawberry smoothies.

The Garden tent includes annuals, perennials, cut flowers, hanging baskets, container gardens, vegetables, herbs, and an orchid table. Master gardeners will be available to answer questions throughout the day.

Representatives from the Breast Health Center, due to open in spring of 2006, will be available for questions.
