Honors and Celebrations Mark End of School Year

As the end of the school year approaches, the WW-P School District is recognizing excellence among its students, teachers, and other staff.

Graduation ceremonies for High Schools North and South take place Friday, June 17, at Sun National Bank Center in Trenton. North’s ceremony is at 11 a.m., followed by South’s at 3 p.m. The ceremonies will include speeches by the recently named valedictorians and salutatorians from each school.

South valedictorian William Jiao will attend Princeton University. Salutatorian Catherine Lee will attend Yale University. North valedictorian Ronald Wang will attend Johns Hopkins University. Salutatorian Roger Jin will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Before graduation, senior standouts from both schools were honored with scholarships and other awards at the schools’ annual awards nights, held June 8 and 9.

And the district will hold its annual celebration to honor retirees, educators of the year, and grant recipients on Tuesday, June 14, at Grover Middle School. The honorees include:

Retirees from High School South: Lucille Anderson, instructional assistant; Sherri Bailey, secretary; Ute Dine, German; Mary Gray, language arts; and Belinda Kanis and Maureen Leleszi, life skills.

Educator of the year: Carole Fevola.

From High School North: Donna Clovis, language arts; Mary Jane Gosselin, school psychologist; Amanda Heron, secretary; and Anne Lyon, special education.

Educator of the year: James Looney.

From Community Middle School: Brenda Cantor, algebra; Elizabeth Randolph, social studies; Wanda Rinker, science; Mary Katherine Seiler, language arts; and Catherine Stefanyszyn-Reilly, special education.

Educator of the year: Linda Scanlan.

From Grover Middle School: John Cochrane, social studies; Meryl Goldstein, school psychologist; Sharon Lasbury, secretary; Rose Stevens, language arts; and Linda Weingart, health and physical education.

Educator of the year: Dawn Gilchrist.

From Dutch Neck: Linda Basler, teacher; Linda Griffin, reading recovery; Patricia Guglielmo, instructional assistant; Karen Krech, ESL; Linda Lavoie, secretary; and Denise Nugent, teacher.

Educator of the year: Keri Hamilton.

From Maurice Hawk: Carole Hersheit, ESL; Cheryl Lowenbraun, special education; and Barbara Sheridan, reading recovery.

Educator of the year: Peggy Watson.

From Millstone River: Mary Catherine Gregorio, fourth grade; Nancy Halter, art; Adrienne Holman, physical education; Michelle Pellecchia, teacher; and Katrin-Kaja Roomann, teacher.

Educator of the year: Sven Strnad.

From Town Center: Brian Stevens, principal; Vicki Calderazzo, basic skills; Jeffrey Craft, physical education; and Ellen Hansen, teacher.

Educator of the year: Alice Guest.

From Village: Cynthia Drum, speech/language therapy; Melinda Hoppe, music; Dana Kercheval, teacher; Gwen Komyati, teacher; and Lorraine Kurfuss, cafeteria aide.

Educator of the year: Marcia Morales.

From Wicoff: Jane Cutler, secretary; and Ellen Wheeler, special education.

Educator of the year: Matthew Jones.

Other retiring staff: Debra Berrios; Christine Grayson; Lillian Lea; Cathy McClenahan; and JoAnn Richards.

The next Board of Education meeting takes place Tuesday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Grover Middle School.
