State Senator Linda R. Greenstein was awarded the Barbara Boggs Sigmund Award from the Women’s Political Caucus of New Jersey at a ceremony on January 9.
Greenstein, a resident of Plainsboro, received the top award for a Democratic woman from the non-partisan caucus. The award recognizes a Democratic woman who has had a successful career, is a leader who has advanced policies in support of women and families, and has made effective efforts to advance the careers of and to create opportunities for other women.
“I’m honored and humbled to be singled out for such a high honor from such a distinguished group as the Women’s Political Caucus,” said Greenstein. “To read the names of those presented with this award over the past 22 years is to read of some of the most significant trailblazers in the history of our great Garden State.”
Greenstein was the first woman elected to the 14th District Senate seat she has held since 2010.
“Sen. Greenstein has long been a champion for issues that are important to women and families,” said Elizabeth Murray, president of the Women’s Political Caucus, the non-partisan grassroots organization dedicated to increasing women’s participation in the political process. “She has carried on the legacy of Barbara Boggs Sigmund through her commitment to improving the lives of women and families throughout the state.”
The award is named after the first-ever woman mayor of Princeton. Sigmund was 51 when she lost her battle with cancer in 1990.
