Two Plainsboro companies, Comprehensive Communications Services and CanDo Fitness, have joined together to bring “Fitness From the Inside Out,” a three-session class focussed on building communication skills. The classes will be held on Wednesdays, March 26, April 30, and May 28, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The program is free with registration.##M:[more]##
“If you’ve ever felt you’d rather die than make a speech, fumbled at making small talk, froze when introducing yourself, or presented well but didn’t enjoy your success, the program is designed to help you strengthen your communication muscles,” says Eileen Sinett, pictured at right, a Plainsboro resident since 1985 and founder of Comprehensive Communications Services. “I’m focused on building communication confidence and authentic self-expression.”
Sinett, a graduate of Emerson College with a degree in speech pathology and audiology, later received her master’s degree in speech correction from Kean College.
She worked at the University of Medicine of Dentistry of New Jersey from 1974 to 1979. When UMDNJ downsized in 1979 and her job was eliminated, she decided to go into private practice in Somerset. “After a few years businesspersons contacted me about public speaking and accent modification and I realized I wanted to work with professionals whose speech concerns were less physically involved,” says Sinett. She transformed her private practice to Comprehensive Communication Services, with a change from a clinical focus to a business one.
Through networking and advertising, Sinett received sub-contracting opportunities and assignments from a career management company, where her work involved role-playing job interviews, videotaping clients, and providing feedback on their communication effectiveness; and a training and consulting firm, where she delivered corporate training in executive presentation skills.
Sinett moved the company from Somerset to Plainsboro in 1990 to balance being both a mother and a business owner. Her daughter, Tracey Haneman, is a junior at High School North. Tracey’s father, David Haneman, owner and CEO of Haneman Associates, provides audio and video production management for concerts, festivals, and special events. (The News, March 7, 2008).
“My mission is to help individuals and businesses develop clear and confident communication for internal and external business presentations, networking events, keynotes, interviews, and social situations,” says Sinett.
Sinett also facilitates Speaking Circles, a public speaking process that is an alternative and complement to Toastmasters, and a conversational English as a Second Language group at the Plainsboro Public Library.
She is licensed as a speech, language, and hearing professional, and is schooled in Speaking Circles methods, a process that develops “speaking confidence, creative self-discovery, and authentic self-expression.” Her training includes speech pathology, the speech arts, and human psychology.
Attend one, two, or three sessions. The topics include “Mindset Matters” on March 26; “Action and Distraction” on April 30; and “Power of Power of Presence” on May 28. Attendees will receive one complimentary pass to CanDo Fitness and one pass to attend a Speaking Circle at CCS.
“You will be able to learn by listening, learn by watching, and, if you’re willing, learn by doing,” says Sinett. — Lynn Miller
