West Windsor’s redevelopment charrette locations have been confirmed. The first meeting, scheduled for Thursday, February 22, from 7 to 10 p.m., will be held at the Hyatt Regency on Route 1. The Saturday, March 17 meeting, set for 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., will be at High School South. The final charrette will be held at Grover Middle School on April 19, from 7 to 10 p.m.##M:[more]##
Registration is required for the meetings, but the township has not yet announced how it will conduct the registration process.
The Hillier Group has released a schedule for the February 22 charrette. Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh will give an introduction, followed by five speakers. The consultants scheduled to speak are George S. Hawkins, executive eirector of NJ Future, whose topic is “Roadmap to Sustainability;” Monica Etz, NJ DOT Transit Village Coordinator, with “Criteria for Transit Village Designation;” Shuprotim Bhaumik, of Economics Research Associates, addressing “Market Assessment & Economics;” Daniel Kueper of Orth-Rogers & Associates will lecture on traffic and circulation Issues; and Bob Hillier, of the architectural firm charged with coordinating the planning, “Project Parameters & Goals.”
Following the presentations, residents will be broken into “small group visioning sessions,” meant “to develop goals and objectives, identify issues, propose and critique options, and ultimately create a blueprint for this area of West Windsor,” said the architect.
The workshops will conclude with representatives from each group sharing the results and highlights of the group’s discussion. The consensus from each workshop will provide a basis for a formal plan for redevelopment.
According to Bradley Walters, who works for Hillier and is also a member of the West Windsor Planning Board, the company has been researching the needs of the project by meeting with groups such as New Jersey Transit, the Department of Transportation and the WW-P School district. He says they have conducted traffic counts and studies as well as researched environmental constraints. Walters says the company has done its homework, but has not yet made decisions on what will be included in the redevelopment.
