A 35-year-old Bridgeton man has been charged in connection with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old Trenton girl following a joint investigation by county prosecutors and city police.
Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta Marbrey said Alex Torres-Lopez faces multiple charges, including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and child endangerment tied to the possession and sharing of explicit images involving a minor.
Authorities said investigators learned on Jan. 5 that a 12-year-old girl living in Trenton had been sexually assaulted. Police later identified Torres-Lopez as the man involved.
According to prosecutors, the girl met Torres-Lopez through the social media platforms Snapchat and Roblox. Investigators said the two met several times in Trenton during the fall of 2025, when Torres-Lopez allegedly had sexual contact with the child.
Prosecutors also allege that Torres-Lopez asked the girl to send him explicit photos and videos of herself.
Torres-Lopez was arrested Jan. 7 at his Bridgeton home without incident. Prosecutors have asked a judge to keep him in custody while the case moves forward.
Under New Jersey law, a first-degree charge carries a possible sentence of 10 to 20 years in state prison, while a second-degree charge carries a possible sentence of five to 10 years if a conviction is secured.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit at 609-960-3119 or submit tips anonymously through the prosecutor’s website.
Authorities also encouraged anyone concerned about inappropriate online contact with children or possible child exploitation to contact the New Jersey Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force at 888-648-6007.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are accusations, and Torres-Lopez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
