Lawrence High School
Lawrence Township Public Schools received two accolades from the New Jersey Alliance for Social, Emotional and Character Development.
NJASECD selected Lawrence High School as a 2014 New Jersey School of Character and LTPS as a 2014 New Jersey District of Character.
With the high school’s new designation, all seven LTPS schools are New Jersey Schools of Character, Eldrige Park and Lawrenceville elementary schools are National Schools of Character. This is the first time LTPS has applied for and received the New Jersey District of Character distinction.
LHS and LTPS will maintain this status for three years and the respective applications have been forwarded to the Character Education Partnership in Washington, D.C. for consideration in the National Schools/District of Character program.
With these honors comes responsibility. The high school and the district will serve as resources for other like entities seeking support in developing their character education program using the CEP’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education. Opportunities to network with colleagues in the same region will be available via Regional Networking Centers organized by the NJASECD.
The application process for achieving these honors is extensive. Alyson Fischer, LHS assistant principal, led a committee that prepared the LHS application and Cindy Westhead, LIS assistant principal, led the committee that drafted the district application.
LHS and LTPS will be honored at a special recognition ceremony during the NJASECD Annual Conference scheduled for March 19 at Rider University.
