After a decade as the Living Local Expo, Lawrence’s annual green fair will go by a new moniker this year: the Mercer Green Fest.

This year’s event will be held Sunday, March 18, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rider University Student Recreation Center. The center is located at 2083 Lawrenceville Rd. The fair is free and open to the public, rain or shine.

The name change reflects the event’s focus on green living and new partnership with nine Mercer County communities. The Mercer Green Fest is presented by the Mercer County Sustainability Coalition, which includes the Ewing Green Team, Hopewell Green Team, Lawrence Environmental Resources and Sustainability Green Advisory Committee, Trenton Green Team, Sustainable Lawrence, Sustainable Princeton, West Windsor Environmental Commission, Mercer County Office of Sustainability and the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association.

The event will feature sustainable local businesses, community groups, a farmers’ market, an electric car display, demonstrations and speakers throughout the day. In addition to the many eco-friendly vendors at the green fair, visitors can learn about a variety of sustainability issues and community projects such as bike paths, food waste recycling, energy efficiency, climate change, solar panels, franking and wellness.

There will also be several kid-friendly activities. This year’s event will feature the Grammy Award-nominated Miss Amy, as well as the Eyes of the Wild traveling zoo and Art All Day.

A farmers’ market will feature local farms and local artisan food producers. A lunch celebrating locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients will be available for purchase.

Small, local businesses and non-profits focused on sustainability are invited to reserve a spot to highlight services through hands-on demonstrations or conversations. Secure a spot through March 11 by contacting Joanne Mullowney of the Ewing Green Team at (609) 883-0862 or jwmullowney@gmail.com.

Look for more information about all of the participants from vendors to speakers to sponsors at mercergreenfest.org.
