The Hopewell Valley Central High School varsity football team fundraised for the Breast Cancer Resource Center at YWCA Princeton.
Team captains Chaz Bell, Sean Richards, Alec Hasse, and Steven Profetto organized a community Pink Out. Hasse said they challenged students and fans to wear pink to an October football game.
“Last year our breast cancer motto was Hope for Hopewell. This year we decided to name it the Hopewell Pink Out, in hopes that there would be a massive amount of pink on the field and in the bleachers at the game,” Hasse said.
The players sold t-shirts at school to fundraise. They raised $883.
The Hopewell Bulldogs played against Burlington Township during the Pink Out game. The players dressed in pink shirts and socks.
The team donated the money to the Breast Cancer Resource Center at YWCA Princeton. The center’s mission is to provide services to help women through all phases of breast cancer. YWCA Princeton also organizes support groups and counseling for breast cancer survivors.
YWCA Princeton spokesperson Diane Hasili said she is thankful for the team’s outreach.
“We are appreciative that they have become ambassadors in spreading the word that we are here when someone in the community is diagnosed with breast cancer,” Hasili said.
