A 41-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning after attempting to break into vehicles at Aaron’s Auto Repair on South Broad Street, police said.
Officers responded to the business at approximately 7:11 a.m. after a report of a suspect, later identified as Lucian Gonzalez-Quinones of Trenton, attempting to steal from cars in the secured lot.
Police said the suspect was armed with a screwdriver and had allegedly tried to harm employees who confronted him.
According to authorities, employees arrived at the shop around 7 a.m. and noticed the fence to the parking lot had been tampered with. Upon investigating, they found Gonzalez-Quinones inside the lot and attempted to restrain him until police arrived.
During the struggle, Gonzalez-Quinones reportedly pulled out a screwdriver and attempted to stab one of the employees, but the workers were able to subdue him.
When police arrived, they took Gonzalez-Quinones into custody. Investigators said they found the screwdriver used in the incident, along with additional screwdrivers and drug paraphernalia on him.
Three vehicles in the lot had their windows smashed, and it is believed the suspect was attempting to steal from them, said police.
Gonzalez-Quinones faces multiple charges, including robbery, possession of burglar’s tools, criminal mischief and weapon-related offenses. He was transported to the Mercer County Correctional Facility and is awaiting a detention hearing.
