Ryan’s Quest, a Hamilton based non-profit organization dedicated to finding treatments and a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, is excited to announce their new event—The RQ5.
This event will kick off on Sunday, May 22 at Mercer County Park in West Windsor. The RQ5 includes a 5 miler, 5K and family walk. This is a far reaching, family friendly event which brings together everyone from serious runners to weekend warriors—all in support of Ryan’s Quest. Create a team, accomplish a personal goal, or just enjoy a day with family and friends, and maybe even a few mascots!
Awards will be given to the top three participants in each age group and to the largest team. Event t-shirts will also be given to all 5K, 5 miler and adult walk pre-entries on race day (while supplies last).
Attendance is expected to grow even more this year with their new five-mile race offering. The RQ5 will end with music, complimentary food and activities for the children such as the Gamin’ Ride Truck and face painters. Pets & strollers are welcome. Visit www.ryansquest.org to learn more.
The Ryan’s Quest Foundation was founded by Hamilton residents David and Maria Schultz on behalf of their son, Ryan, and thousands of other young men diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a life limiting disorder for which there is no cure. Ryan’s Quest is dedicated to finding a treatment that will ensure the survival and quality of life for this generation of affected young men and boys.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy occurs in approximately one out of every 3,600 male births. It is considered one of the most common and severe forms of muscular dystrophy. Considered a genetic disorder, approximately 35 percent of all cases appear to be by spontaneous mutation. Duchenne is typically diagnosed between 3 and 7 years of age, with the mean year of diagnosis around the age of 5. Duchenne follows a predictable progressive clinical course of muscle weakness. Loss of ambulation occurs by the age of 12 and death generally in early adulthood secondary to respiratory or cardiac failure.
