Mayor Kelly A. Yaede announced Feb. 20 that the township’s police department received high marks in American Civil Liberties Union testing.
In a statement, Mayor Yaede said the police division earned a perfect score in a test about giving the public correct information to file a complaint against the police.
The ACLU surveyed approximately 500 police agencies throughout New Jersey. They reported that three out of every four agencies violated the State Attorney General’s Guidelines that require police departments to accept complaints without question.
Hamilton Township was in the 24 percent of police agencies that responded correctly and the only police department in Mercer County to earn a perfect score in the report.
Mayor Yaede said the report is consistent with the level of service she expects from all Hamilton departments.
“As mayor it is my job to ensure that the people of Hamilton come first and that their government works for them. I have always believed that the service provided by the employees of Hamilton Township is second to none and this perfect score supports that belief,” Mayor Yaede said.
