New Jersey Department of Transportation is set to start maintenance resurfacing and roadway repair on Mercer and Hunterdon county roads the week of June 10.
Workers will mill and repave deteriorated sections of asphalt and concrete roadway on four different highways.
Maintenance is set for Route 29 in both directions from the Delaware and Raritan Canal, near milepost 9.38, to Route 175 (West Upper Ferry Road) in Ewing .
Route 29 southbound from south of Calhoun Street to just north of Lalor Street in Trenton.
Route 33 in both directions from west of Paxson Avenue in Hamilton to the interchange with Route 130 in Robbinsville.
The entirety of Route 156 in both directions in Hamilton.
Route 202 northbound from just south of Route 31 in the Ringoes section of West Amwell to just north of CR 514 (Old York Road) in East Amwell.
Route 29 in both directions from just south of Route 179 in Lambertville to the border with West Amwell.
The $6.5 million project aims to improve motorist safety and extend the pavement lifespan along the full width of the roadway at each location, including all travel lanes, turn lanes, vicinity of side streets, ramp and shoulders.
At the end of the project, utility hardware (manholes) should rest within the roadway to improve final surface course rideability and ADA-compliant curb ramps will be constructed where necessary.
Other plans include re-stripping the highways and installing new image-detection cameras at selected intersections to replace the existing underground loop detectors.
NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, Arawak Paving, Co., plans to begin initial construction activity on Route 202 in East Amwell the week of June 10.
The work is to be performed under the allowable lane closures schedule, maintaining at least one travel lane at each location during peak period travel hours. Access to all businesses is set to be maintained.
All work in the contract is expected to complete in late-fall 2013.
