The Ewing Arts Commission’s Featured Artist Program is presenting local artist Janet McLaughlin’s show, “Serendipity Part 2,” throughout March and April.
McLaughlin, a former Ewing resident, is displaying her work at the Ewing Township Municipal Building, located at 2 Jake Garzio Drive.
McLaughlin’s journey is a unique one, connected by both art and fate. She is one of three women, all born five years apart, who grew up in Ewing, played together, and eventually moved away.
Now, 60 years later, McLaughlin and her childhood friends, Linda Robinson and Ellen Wylie Smith, have reunited, brought together by their shared love of art and their memories of Ewing.
Robinson and Smith were the featured artists in January with their joint show, “Serendipity Part 1.” McLaughlin’s “Serendipity Part 2” continues the artistic trio’s celebration of creativity and reconnection.
Serendipity is the occurrence of events by chance, and the three womens’ shared past in Ewing has been a strong bond. Their love for art has deepened that connection.
McLaughlin, who grew up in the Prospect Heights area of Ewing, purchased a home on the same street as her childhood home before later moving to the Mountainview section with her husband, Brian.
The couple lived in Ewing until they moved to Burlington County several years ago. During her time in Ewing, McLaughlin served on the Ewing Township Redevelopment Agency and the Zoning Board.
In addition to McLaughlin’s solo exhibition, all three artists still have work on display as part of EAC’s “Love…Is All We Need” group show. Most of the artworks are available for purchase, with 10% of all proceeds benefiting EASEL, Ewing’s animal shelter.
The exhibit is open for viewing at the Ewing Municipal Building Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
