Permanent exhibit at county clerk’s office displays the history of Mercer County

On March 12, Mercer County completed the final program in its yearlong celebration marking the 175th anniversary its founding with the unveiling of a permanent display of records at the office of County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello.

The permanent display will showcase the earliest maps, election results and deeds recorded in Mercer County, along with artifacts and relics of the county’s establishment.

On display now are the deeds of historic figures who have resided in Mercer County such as President Woodrow Wilson, Albert Einstein, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Charles Lindbergh, Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, Mary G. Roebling and Paul Robeson.

Also on display are the Mercer County results of the 1960 presidential election between Kennedy and Nixon and the 1984 presidential election during which two women, Angela Davis and Geraldine Ferraro, ran as vice presidential candidates.
