Burlington County College was ranked number four in the nation for two-year colleges in Military Times magazine’s “Best for Vets: 2013” and earned a top spot in Military Advanced Education magazine’s “2013 Guide to Military Friendly Colleges and Universities.”
Earlier in 2012, BCC received the distinction as a “Military Friendly School” for 2013 by G.I. Jobs magazine. With more than 1,400 military and military-affiliated students, a dedicated Military Education and Veterans Services office, and a Military Education Center on the Joint Base McGuire-Dix Lakehurst, BCC is invested in its commitment to serve the military population.
According to the Military Times magazine article, more than 650 schools responded to the magazine’s “2013 Best for Vets: Colleges” survey, which consisted on nearly 150 questions. BCC was included in their list of 23 two-year colleges. The magazine also included rankings for four-year colleges, online-nontraditional colleges, and career technical colleges.
The schools were rated in four core categories: military culture, support services, financial aid and flexibility.
In 1973, BCC opened the Office of Veterans Affairs to provide assistance to the veteran population at the institution. BCC’s Military Education and Veterans Services staff assists students with admissions, academic advising, assessment testing, counseling and registration and helps to increase awareness of the benefits available from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA).
Since the early 1970s, the College has had a presence on the nearby Joint Base McGuire-Dix Lakehurst. Today, the Military Education Center, located in room 107 Building 3829, 4 School Road, offers programs designed to meet the busy lifestyle of active military members and their families, including seven and 10-week accelerated courses, weekend courses, and extensive distance education opportunities. BCC offers more educational programs than any other school on the base.
