As we enter the final stretch of the school year, May offers us a meaningful opportunity to both reflect on how far we’ve come and look ahead to what we are building together.
Across Lawrence Township Public Schools, the early stages of our approved referendum projects are becoming increasingly visible, and with them comes a sense of excitement and momentum.
At Lawrence Middle School, we are in the midst of a full auditorium renovation—a space that is currently being transformed into a modern, flexible environment designed to better support student performances, presentations, assemblies, and community gatherings. This investment will ensure that students have access to a space that matches the talent, creativity, and pride they bring to it every day.
At the same time, preparations are also moving forward for the Lawrence Middle School two-story addition. This work represents an important step in addressing the future grade-level restructuring. By the 2029-2030 school year, third grade will move to Lawrence Intermediate School and Lawrence Middle School will welcome the sixth grade into its dedicated new wing. These are not just construction projects; they are long-term investments to align LTPS with the NJ Department of Education recommended grade-level bands to improve how students learn, collaborate, and grow within our schools.
Together, these projects reflect a shared commitment by our community to provide students with the spaces they deserve—safe, modern, and designed to support excellence in teaching and learning for years to come.
But while we are building physically, we are also building something just as important: a shared vision for the future of our district.
We have launched a community-driven strategic planning process designed to shape the next five years of LTPS. This work brings together families, staff, students, and community members to identify priorities, define goals, and ensure that our district continues to move forward in a thoughtful and intentional way. At the heart of this process is a simple belief: the best ideas for our schools come from the people who know them best.
Our next strategic planning session will take place on May 27, and we encourage all community members connected to LTPS in some way to take part. If you were not able to attend the first session on April 15, please know that you are still very much welcome. Each session is designed to be inclusive and open, and new voices are essential to shaping a plan that truly reflects our community. A final session will be held on June 8, providing one more opportunity to engage in this important work.
As we move through May and toward the end of the school year, there is much to celebrate and much to look forward to. Our students continue to learn and grow in remarkable ways, our staff continue to inspire through their dedication, and our community continues to show what is possible when we work together with a shared purpose.
The strength of Lawrence Township Public Schools has always been its people. Whether through improving our facilities or shaping our long-term vision, it is this collective commitment that ensures our schools not only meet today’s needs, but are prepared for tomorrow’s opportunities.
Thank you for being an essential part of this journey and for your continued partnership in building the future of LTPS. We hope to see you on May 27.
Dr. Robyn Klim is the Superintendent of the Lawrence Township Public Schools.
