Ewing’s Patriotic Committee has officially opened applications for the 2025 “Hometown Heroes” Banner Program, a tribute designed to honor local veterans.
The banners will be displayed on Silvia Street light poles from Memorial Day through Veterans Day, featuring the names, ranks, service branches, and photos of Ewing men and women who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Veterans honored by this program include current and former residents of Ewing Township, as well as those recommended by organized veterans groups such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans.
The program, which was approved by Mayor Bert Steinmann and the Ewing Town Council, aims to recognize the sacrifices made by veterans while visually reminding the community of their dedication to the country.
To be eligible for a banner, veterans, living or deceased, must have had a connection to Ewing Township at some point in their lives. Those honored on war memorials within the township, or veterans recommended by local veterans’ organizations, also qualify for the program.
The banners, which measure 36 inches by 24 inches, will include a photo of the veteran in uniform, along with their name, rank, branch of service, and dates of service. They will be installed along Silvia Street and remain in place from Memorial Day through Veterans Day 2025.
Applications are open on a first-come, first-served basis, and banners will be displayed for the duration of the 2025 season.
The deadline for submissions is April 15, 2025, with a $125 fee for each banner. This cost covers production, Photoshop photo restoration, installation, and removal of the banner.
After Veterans Day, banners will be removed and returned to the sponsor. In cases where families are unable to afford the $125 fee, the program offers sponsorship and donation options to assist with costs.
The Hometown Heroes Banner Program is funded through donations and sponsorships. Those interested in sponsoring a banner for a veteran or making a general donation to support the program can do so through the township’s application system. Sponsors can either choose a specific veteran or allow their funds to be used where needed.
