Every time I go to Town Center, I think how, not too long ago, where I’ve parked used to be the kitchen of a farmhouse.
It’s remarkable, really, how fast Robbinsville has grown—developed not only in the sense of homes and businesses, but also with a strong sense of community and tradition.
It is this community spirit that inspired us, on the occasion of the Advance’s 10th anniversary, to take a look back at some of the moments we’ve captured in our pages. We spent hours combing through our archives to compile a list of stories to revisit. To narrow it down to 10 for this issue—and to report on them—was a challenge at times. The results, we hope, speak for themselves.
The past decade has flown by for us, and we had trouble believing it had been so long since we’d last written about this or that.
You won’t see some major moments, like the development of the Amazon fulfillment center, the construction of the beautiful BAPS mandir or the arrival of chains like Taco Bell and Starbucks, in this edition. On the beautiful afternoon of April 23, 2008, photographer Morgan Merritt found sisters Sophia and Isabella Aquilino, of Robbinsville, enjoying ice cream from Maggie Moo’s with their mother Kristin and younger brother Joey.
Merritt snapped a few photos of Sophia, 3, and Isabella, 4, one of which wound up on the cover of the very first issue of the Robbinsville Advance.
Now 13 and 14, the girls still live in Robbinsville and attend Pond Road Middle School.
Maggie Moo’s is no longer, but Sophia and Isabella gladly recreated the 2008 photo April 7, 2018 with cupcakes from Cake Walk bakery, the occupant of the former Maggie Moo’s location. (Photo by Suzette J. Lucas.)
