Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I received a mailer from Kamal Khanna’s team at home over the weekend. I am definitely flattered that, after talking about negotiating with Howard Hughes for weeks, our opponents have finally come around to accepting our position that not rezoning the HH property for residential construction is the best strategy for West Windsor. They even adopted our logo.
The questions for voters to decide are whether or not this is just a campaign tactic and, if elected, how strongly would they defend us if Howard Hughes sues the township?
When I decided to run for mayor, I spoke to several people as potential running mates. All of them would have made wonderful council members. I decided to run with Linda Geevers and Virginia Manzari not only because they bring unique skills to the table, but also because we share a common vision on important issues.
They have demonstrated their commitment to West Windsor with long service in volunteer positions, are independent thinkers, and always have the best interests of our community at heart. Most importantly, they also share my commitment to prevent housing on the Howard Hughes property.
This election offers a clear choice. If you prefer no residential growth on the Howard Hughes property, vote Hemant Marathe for mayor and Linda Geevers and Virginia Manzari for council. We have fought against Howard Hughes for the last four years and our opposition will remain strong after the election.
We will do whatever it takes to protect our schools and our community from developers who wish to profit at our expense. It is important to elect the entire team that will stand united against Howard Hughes. It also sends a clear message to the developer that the entire community is united against the project that will turn West Windsor into a small city.
If elected we pledge to: run an honest, transparent and productive government; spend your tax dollars with efficiency and economy; maintain West Windsor’s natural beauty for future generations; and respect our diverse community and promote interactions among us as we have so much to learn from each other.
Over the last six weeks we have engaged over a thousand residents on social media, at meet and greets and while knocking on your doors. We have experienced first hand the diversity of West Windsor and the kindness of its people. We have enjoyed answering your hard questions and having honest discussions with you. We hope we have earned your trust and will earn your vote.
