In every edition of the Ewing Observer, Mayor Bert Steinmann answers readers’ questions. This month we feature two questions posed to us by township residents and one questions devised by the Ewing Observer staff.
What can be done so that we can ensure residents clean up after their dogs? This has become a real problem for my neighborhood, particularly on Willis Drive in the Delaware Rise section. I have witnessed one individual not clean up after his dog and we had a conversation about following the township’s rules and laws, yet it continues to be a problem in our neighborhood. What options do we have to address this situation?
–Mike Krause
We have an ordinance in place, Chapter 97, Article 1 (97-3). This requires that all owners of dogs must clean up after their dogs.
When you see a violation and the owner or walker of the dog does not clean up, this ordinance allows you or any citizen to file a complaint against the violator.
You may also call the Ewing Township Police at (609) 882-1313 (non-emergency number) to file a complaint. The third option is that you can call the Ewing Township Animal Control Officer at (609) 993-2900, ext. 7175 during the day.
I have lived on Pennington Road for 27 years, and am frustrated that the snow plow drivers stay 5 feet from the curb. Is there anything that can be done to get the drivers to plow closer to the curb?
–Mike Varano Jr.
Pennington Road (Route 31) is plowed by the State of New Jersey. I will share your concern with our three state elected officials, Sen. Shirley Turner at (609) 323-7239, Assemblyman Reed Gusciora and Assemblywoman Liz Mouio at (609) 292-0500.
You can also call my office, and I can reach out to the State DOT. The issue of curb to curb plowing is a question at every level of government.
When we go curb to curb the snow gets pushed up onto sidewalks and blocks in driveways. When we do not go curb to curb we receive complaints that drivers cannot get out of the driveway or down the street. Snow clearing is a very difficult and frustrating process for residents and employees who are performing the work.
It’s the time of year when residents start cleaning up their yards. What’s the procedure yard debris gathered during for spring cleaning? Should people be leaving their brush and leaves at the curb for pickup?
We will start picking up the spring cleanup brush from the curb on Monday, April 17 and will continue the pick up until Friday, June 16.
All residents can continue drop off yard debris at the Jack Stephan Way location off of Parkway. In addition, we will continue to pick up yard debris that is placed in biodegradable bags on a weekly basis the day after your regular trash pickup day
If you have a question for the mayor for next month’s edition, submit it by emailing bsanservino@mercerspace.com. You must be a Ewing resident.
