Aaron Thompson of Lawrenceville was chosen to be one of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation 2015 Ambassadors.
St. Baldrick’s is a charity dedicated to raising money for children’s cancer research.
The five yearly Ambassadors represent the more than 175,000 children worldwide that are diagnosed with childhood cancer each year. They serve as the faces and voices of the foundation and are a constant reminder of the need for childhood cancer research funding.
Five Ambassadors are chosen to represent the reality that one in five children diagnosed with cancer in the United States will not survive.
Thompson, 17, was diagnosed with Burkitt non-Hodgkin lymphoma after discovering a lump in the side of his neck at age 15. He is now in remission after months of treatment.
Thompson enjoys playing sports, as well as playing the saxophone in his school band.
The Ambassadors are from different areas of the country and different backgrounds, with different disease types and outcomes.
They and their families will attend St. Baldrick’s signature head-shaving event, special ceremonies and other activities where they will talk with the media, volunteers, donors and researchers.
