The Lawrence Township Public School district is fortunate to have staff dedicated to student achievement, providing students with innovative educational experiences in the classroom and important services outside the classroom environment.
This year, one teacher and one Educational Service Professional at each of our seven schools were selected by a school panel to be recognized for the Governor’s Educator of the Year Program.
The 2015 recipients are:
LHS: Camille Mallon (Language Arts teacher) and Barbara Hohner (school psychologist)
LMS: Courtney Doto (science teacher) and Cindy Agoston (school nurse)
LIS: Milissa Neirotti (6th grade math teacher) and Lynne Traina (school nurse)
SES: Mary Ellen Wallauer (1st grade teacher) and Jennifer Mahler (school psychologist)
LES: Kimberly Finochiaro (2nd grade teacher) and Susan Carney (speech therapist)
EPS: Eileen Bright (2nd grade teacher) and Michele Immordino (library media specialist)
BFS: Julie Schmidt (3rd grade teacher) and Nancy Simon (occupational therapist).
Congratulations! We thank each of you for your outstanding contributions, in and out of the classrooms, leading to student success.
Speaking of student success, the Lawrence High School 6th Annual Poetry Out Loud competition was held on Jan. 5. Freshman Adam LeCompte was named champion and will now advance to the regional competition. Congratulations and good luck, Adam!
In sports news, more than one month into the winter season, the Lawrence Cardinals girls’ swim team is off to a great start. As of mid-January, the team was undefeated with its 10th consecutive win this season.
Also, congratulations to LHS senior Patrick Thornton, who was named best boys swimmer in the Colonial Valley Conference in an nj.com poll.

December’s Community Conversation was just the start of the district’s strategic planning process. In coming months, we will continue discussing what is important to consider in formulating our goals for the district’s next five-year strategic plan. This month we will “Continue the Conversation” and strategic planning process with meetings in the High School library on Wednesday Feb. 4 and Wednesday Feb. 25 from 6:30–9 p.m.
If your child will be 5-years old on or before Oct. 1, 2015, he/she is eligible to attend Kindergarten in LTPS beginning in September 2015. Kindergarten pre-registration will begin on Feb. 2. Visit the district website, ltps.org, for more information.
Reminder, school will be closed on Friday, Feb. 13 and Monday, Feb. 16.
And while you’re marking your calendars, the Board of Education approved the 2015-2016 district calendar at our Jan. 14 meeting. The calendar is posted on the district website under the Quick Links along the left side of the homepage.
