She will be serving on the board for the next two years and working together with 64 other trustees to make important decisions for the university including tuition, financial aid, and more.

She is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in industrial and labor relations. At Cornell her services include two terms on the Student Assembly, as a freshman-at-large representative, and as women’s representative.

Bhandari’s platform included her experience as a strong voice for students. “I think given my experience being on the SA for the past two years, I have what it takes to advocate for students, make structural changes, and look at Cornell beyond just as a business and make it more about the experiences of students,” she said. One of her priorities is addressing how campus finances are spent.

“Is it a priority for Cornell to construct a building, or should we instead invest that money in financial aid?” Bhandari said to the school newspaper. “Students want an understanding of where our tuition goes. I think it takes a strong student trustee advocating on behalf of students to do that.”

The duo collaborated with one high school, two elementary schools, farm-to-school coordinators, and multiple non-profits in Vermont.

“By providing environmental education, we are able to provide an opportunity for students to develop leadership skills,” they told the audience. “It is by promoting student and community action that we can brighten our environmental future.” They are developing a template and resources to be utilized by high schools across the state.

A graduate of High School South, Meersma was a student advisor for the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance for three years. “It was one of the most rewarding things I did in high school,” she said. “I am able to see the accomplishments of the collective group around town, such as crosswalks installations.”
