James J. Scheideler, 90, of West Windsor died May 29 at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. Born in Trenton, he was raised in Lawrence Station. He lived in West Windsor since 1960.

Scheideler worked for the family business, Scheideler Brothers Potato Brokers, prior to World War II. In 1948 he co-founded Mazur and Scheideler, a landscaping and excavating company, which became Scheideler Excavating Company in 1970. He retired in 1988.

A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he served aboard the Battleship USS Pennsylvania and saw action at Okinawa when his ship was torpedoed and nearly sank just two days before the end of the war. Scheideler held pilot licenses in fixed wing aircraft as well as hot air balloons.

Survivors include his four children, Teresa and her husband, Mario Musso; Karen Scheideler; James and his wife, Cindy Scheideler, and Cheryl Ann Scheideler; and his grandson, James Martin Scheideler and his fiancee, Jacquelyn Beres.

Ruth Goodman, 97, of West Windsor died May 29 at her home. Born in Camden, she was a former resident of Ithaca, New York.

A graduate of Cornell University she taught science and English in high school and English as a second language at Cornell University.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Robert Feldman, and Judith and Robert Mecklenburger; four grandchildren, David, Elana, Kathryn, and Laura; and three great-grandchildren. Joseph Kovarcik, 92, of Monroe died May 31. A Navy veteran, he served during World War II. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Joseph D. Marrolli of West Windsor; and grandchildren Jacqueline B. Marrolli and Joseph F. Marrolli. Donations may be made to Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 85 Summit Avenue, Garfield 07026.

Jerry I. Sherman, 82, of West Windsor died May 31 at the University Medical Center of Princeton. He lived in West Windsor for 15 years.

A graduate of Rutgers, he was inducted into the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004. He worked at Jersey Paper in North Brunswick for 15 years, and later at Tomar Industries in Marlboro for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Shirley; three daughters and sons-in-law, Helayne Sherman and Rick Hay, Cynthia and Jeff Gale, Michelle and Eric White; and seven grandchildren.

Josephine M. Vizzari, 78, of Estero, Florida, died June 2. Survivors include a brother, John Bonnici of West Windsor. Donations may be made to Our Lady of Light Catholic Community, 19680 Cypress View Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33967.

Jo-Anne Suter, 64, of Whiting died June 3. Born in Jersey City, she lived in Plainsboro before moving to Whiting 21 years ago. She worked for L’Oreal and Mary Kay.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Robert J. Suter; two step-children, Linda Glide and her husband, Dave, and Robert J. Suter Jr. and his wife, Bernadette; a brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Donna Capo; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and John Hill; and one step-grandson, Ryan Warwick.
