Women With a Purpose is set to host a dinner at the Hilton Garden Inn Hamilton on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. Guests will enjoy a full buffet dinner and dessert, unlimited soft drinks, coffee and tea and happy hour drink prices.
The October dinner will benefit Alec Perusich and the Perusich family of Robbinsville, NJ. Alec has a rare syndrome called Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS), a severe allergic reaction to a medication or virus. Almost one day after his diagnosis in May 2012, Alec suffered internal and external blistering covering 70% of his body as well as severe eye damage. The following June, after experiencing increasing vision loss and eye pain, Alec was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Ocular Cicatrical Pemphigold, which was most likely secondary to SJS.
To help contain the disease Alec had a double lumen port surgically implanted into his chest to administer regular treatments of Rituixmab, IVIG and apheresis. In addition, he is being seen by doctors at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami to help rehabilitate his eyes. He had reconstructive surgery on his right eye to make him more comfortable as well as numerous membrane grafts in both eyes. The doctors at Bascom are awaiting FDA approval for the use of ex vivo limbal stem cells to use on their patients, including Alec.
The dinner costs $23 per person, including tax and gratuity, to be paid in cash to the Inn. Additionally, there is a minimum contribution of $10 cash or check to Women With A Purpose. Outside contributions can be mailed to Women With a Purpose PO Box 74, Titusville. Checks should specify “October 29th Dinner” in the memo section.
